We have been pleased to meet and talk to many of you in the last couple of months.  Applications are coming in and we continue to receive many inquiries.  We are looking forward to the next frenzied months.

MARCH MEET AND GREET

We are pleased to invite you to attend Chicago Friends School's Meet and Greet for Parents and Families. Come meet the organizers of the new Quaker school opening on Chicago's North Side. This is a great chance to ask questions about the school and talk with other parents considering Quaker education for their children.

Kids are welcome, and we will serve light refreshments.

SCHEDULES

We know that many of you are concerned about the daily and yearly schedule, as well as the application process and time line.

We have a small committee working out the details of the academic schedules, and expect to post all of that to our web site within the next month.  We expect the yearly schedule will closely follow the CPS schedule for convenience of those who may have children in both.

Very shortly the Admissions Committee will meet to review all our current applications and arrange any meetings.  We will continue to accept applications as space is available.

We have also heard many of your concerns about having a half-day pre-k option, and are working on the logistics of that.
FALL FUND RAISER
On a frigid evening the first week of December, Friends and friends alike braved the temperature to share food and fellowship at the Loose Leaf Lounge to benefit the Chicago Friends School.  There was live music, beautiful art on display, and a great conversation about our goals for the school and what we need to reach them.Clyde and Jeanette Baker

One thing we discussed was the need to expand our volunteer force.  There are so many wonderful people with special talents who are interested in the school, and we'd like to plug them all into our work to make this a real grassroots effort.  If you have experience in grant writing, teaching, curriculum development, or any other skill useful in opening a brand new school, please let us know.  We would love to bring you on board one of our committees.
Tom and Celia
We also discussed the goal of getting forty students in our inaugural classes.  To do this, we must spread the word to parents of children age four, five, six, and seven.  Forwarding this email to parents would be a great way to help us do this.
The December dinner was just the first in a series of events we will be having.  Intimate events like this help us get to know our supporters as well as raise much-needed funds for the school.  At this time next year, we'll be having our first holiday party with students, parents, and teachers of the Chicago Friends School.  Your help today is crucial in getting us to that point.
DONATIONS
As many of you know, any private school depends on a donor base in addition to tuition.  We continue to actively seek donations of time, money and equipment.  If you have materials or furnishings you would like to donate, please contact us at info@chicagofriendsschool.org so we can determine if they're appropriate to our needs.  You may make donations of any size through our web site or Facebook, please contact us if you would like to discuss your donation, or would like to earmark it.
We are excited to have this opportunity to open a Quaker School in Chicago.  To find out more, please visit our web site: www.chicagofriendsschool.org.

Sincerely,

The Board and volunteers of
Chicago Friends School
