Get Involved
Chicago Friends School is always looking for people to become involved in the many facets that are necessary to run this school. The board has carried this project from its incubation through its first year of life. We have a number of committees to carry out the actual work of the school, and we are always seeking people who are willing and able to do that work. Please contact us to let us know your interest. Following is a list of committees that might interest you:
Admissions:
Research state and local regulations. Develop all materials, guidelines and information for admissions. Write and distribute press releases, articles and advertising. Attend school fairs etc. Produce brochures, fliers and mailings.
Curriculum:
Develop an overall structure and philosophy for curriculum for board approval.
Write student handbook.
Find resources to implement curriculum, including texts, lectures, workshops and training for staff and board.
Review curriculum implementation on a regular basis and suggest changes as required.
Facilities:
Prepare budget projections for space needs.
With board approval: negotiate contracts for lease and/or purchase of real estate and for required furnishings.
Secure all permits for construction and operation.
Oversee repair, maintenance and replacement of real estate and required furnishings.
Oversee procurement of all permits.
Finance
Prepare budget projections for the first few years of operation. Research and prepare budgets for capital and programmatic changes.
Review yearly budget prepared by Head of School, oversee work of treasurer. Hire auditor.
Fund Raising:
Oversee and coordinate the fund raising efforts of all board members. Provide education, training and resources to board members to help with their fund raising efforts. Oversee staff support of fund raising.
Nominating:
Nominate board members, officers, committee members and clerks, and suggest any changes to job descriptions for those positions.
Outreach and Public Relations:
Pursue all opportunities to make CFS known among Chicago Quakers, interested parents and colleagues at other schools.
Work to increase involvement of parents and others within the school community.
Personnel:
Oversee hiring and firing of all staff. Write all job descriptions for paid staff. Write employee handbook. Research and propose all benefits.
Professional Oversight and Development:
Oversee the teaching staff and is a primary interface between the teaching staff and board members and parents.
